How to create an ODBC Data Source for an Oracle database. LP: BMC Performance Assurance 9.0, 7.5 DR: Visualizer 4.2

Legacy ID:KA390131
Prerequisite: The 32-bit Oracle Client must already be installed on the PC. An Oracle tablespace, userid and password must already be created.
Visualizer is a 32-bit application so the 32-bit ODBC Data Source Panel must be used to create the Data Sources used with Visualizer.
Proceed with the following steps to create an Oracle ODBC Data Source that can be used with Visualizer to access the Capacity Database (CDB).
1. Once in the ODBC Data Source Panel, first click on the System DSN tab and then on the Add button.
2. Click on the “Oracle in <your oracle client name>” driver. Then the “Finish” button.
3. In the Data Source Name box enter a name for your data source. If the Oracle client has been set up correctly and the connection information for the Oracle instance has been entered into the client’s TNSNAMES.ORA file, clicking on the pull down box in the TNS Service Name field should show the Oracle instance Alias name. Select the correct Alias, if more than one is displayed. Enter the Oracle Userid in the User Id field. Click on the Test Connection button.
4. The Service Name and User Name should already be filled in. Enter in the Oracle user’s password and click OK.
5. If the above information is correct and the Oracle client was set up correctly the “Connection successful” message should be displayed. If the connection fails, recheck the Service Name Alias, User Name and password. If that info checks out then the problem is most likely with the Oracle client setup.
6. Click OK to save the New Data Source.
7. Click Ok to Exit the ODBC Data Source Administrator.
