What are the steps required to install the Oracle 32 bit Client so that it can be used with AMI Capacity Database, AMI Cost Management and AMI Capacity Management? |
Visualizer, Cost Analyzer and Mainview Threshold Advisor (further referred to as CMM Apps) are 32 bit applications so the 32 bit Oracle client must be used in order to connect any of the CMM Apps to an Oracle schema (database). 1. From the Oracle download website or obtain from someone internally the 32 bit Oracle client install package. The default name for the file is NT_180000_client.zip. Extract the .zip file to a temporary location on the hard disk of the Windows machine where the client will be installed. Under the …\NT_180000_client\client32 directory right click on the setup.exe file and select Run as administrator to start the install. 2. This will display this screen which will check the system’s configuration to see if it meets the minimum configuration. 3. After a minute the installation screen will appear. Click on the radio button in front of Custom. Then click Next. 4. Click the radio button in front of Use Windows Built-in Account and then click Next. 5. In the Oracle Base box enter the drive and directory for the top-level directory to install into. You’ll notice the same top-level directory will be updated in the Software Location box. Update any of the other directory levels as appropriate. Click Next. 6. Click on the check boxes in front of the Component packages indicated below. Click Next. 7. This will start the Prerequisite Checks which may take several seconds to complete. 8. When the Prerequisite check completes, this screen will be displayed. Click Install to install the client. 9. This screen will be displayed to show the progress of the install. This step could take up to 10 minutes depending on the machine you’re installing on. 10. This screen will be displayed once the install finishes successfully. Click Close to exit the installer. 11. Before the client can be used a tnsnames.ora file needs to be created or obtained from the DBA. The tnsnames.ora file contains the connection information required to connect the Oracle client with the Oracle Instance server. 12. The tnsnames.ora file is located in the <ORACLE_HOME directory>\network\admin directory. 13. The contents of the tnsnames.ora file will look similar to this. |
