Getting below errors while starting the PATROL Agent(PA) after installation:
 

Invalid directory or permissions denied to PATROL_ADMIN. Directory: /opt/bmc/Patrol3/Linux-2-6-x86-64-nptl 
Make sure PATROL_HOME and : PatrolAgent-E-EUSER: Invalid directory or permissions denied to PATROL_ADMIN.
Directory: /opt/bmc/Patrol3/Linux-2-6-x86-64-nptl
Make sure PATROL_HOME and PATROL_ADMIN and environments are set correctly.

OR
 

PatrolAgent-E-EUSER: Invalid directory or permissions denied to PATROL_ADMIN.
Directory: /opt/bmc/Patrol3/Linux-2-6-x86-64-nptl
Make sure PATROL_HOME and PATROL_REMOTE and environments are set correctly.

Incorrect symbolic link created.
lrwxrwxrwx 1 patrol patrol 23 3 16 15:16 config -> /opt/bmc/Patrol3/config
lrwxrwxrwx 1 patrol patrol 20 3 16 15:16 log -> /opt/bmc/Patrol3/log

and no symblic link is created from $PATROL_HOME/lib -> Patrol3/lib

Perform the below steps to resolve the issue:

1. Delete incorrect symbolic link
    ( directories will be newly created next time PA starts up)

     % . ./patrolrc.sh

     % cd Patrol3
     % rm -rf config
     % rm -rf log

     % cd $PATROL_HOME
     % mv config  config.save
     % mv log log.save

2. Create symbolic link

     check if $PATROL_HOME/lib exists and linked to Patrol3/lib
    % ls -l $PATROL_HOME/lib

    if  $PATROL_HOME/lib doesn't exist ,create new link.

     % cd $PATROL_HOME
     % ln -s ../lib

3. Run post-installation scripts as root
     # cd Patrol3
     # ./agent_configure.sh -d
     # ./b1config7510.sh

4. Make sure hostname can be pinged from local machine.

5. Verify the permission of app-defaults and remote folder under /opt/bmc/Patrol3/Linux-2-6-x86-64-nptl
drwxr-xr-x 2 patrol patrol 4096 Aug  9  2016 app-defaults
drwxr-xr-x 2 patrol patrol 4096 Aug  9  2016 remote

Restart PA


6. Check the OverWrite security option in the install.ctl file and if it is FALSE, make it as TRUE.

7. Try running the installer using -no_bacakup option in case of the silent installation

./RunSilentInstall -no_backup

8. Check if enough space (Approx. 700 MB and above) available to install PA.


Similar errors are also found when there is an OS upgrade and PA files are copied to new location manually instead of upgrading the PA.

This scenario is not supported by BMC.

PA reinstall is required if there is an OS upgrade.
