When installing Control-M 9.0.21, an external Java 11.0.12 or higher version must be installed first.
Java is no longer supplied with Control-M starting with version 9.0.21.
Before the Control-M installation, the appropriate Java Windows variable must be set, that points to the external. Java already installed on this system.
On a Windows host, locating Java and setting this Windows variable can pose certain challenges.

How can I set the JAVA environment variable needed for a Control-M 9.0.21 installation on Windows?

BMC has provided the attached Powershell script to assist in locating any Java installed on the Windows host and setting the variable prior to installing Control-M 9.0.21.

1) Download the version 9.0.21 Control-M Distributed product and extract into a temporary directory on the target Windows host

2) Download the find-java-release.zip file attached to this article.
Extract the files named find_java.bat and find_java.ps1, and place them in the same temporary directory from step 1 where the Control-M installer was extracted

3) Double check that the find_java.bat and find_java.ps1 files are not blocked by Windows security:
- Right click on each file, and select Properties
- In the General tab, at the bottom, make sure a message regarding the file being blocked is not seen
- If one is seen, select the option to unblock

4) When ready to install, right click on the find_java.bat script and select "Run as administrator"

5) Enter the option number for the java version and location that you want to use for this Control-M installation

6) If Control-M/Server is installed, enter an unused port for the API Gateway

7) Continue with the Control-M installation
