Client Management - ADK 1809 Installation with BMC Client Management OSD module
- Microsoft has changed the way ADK is released for installation from ADK 1809. This has impact on OSD module used in BMC Client Management if ADK 1809 is not installed properly.
BCM Users may encounter error 'Windows ADK Windows Preinstallation Environment directory not found'

>= 12.7 and ADK version 1809 or higher
  • ADK 1809 installation is not detected by BMC Client Management
  • Error on BCM Console: The Windows ADK Toolkit or one of its required elements could not be found (ADK 1809)

  • A warning log entry will be logged in mtxagent.log when the error message is prompted on OSD manager configuration screen.

  • There is no Windows Preinstallation Environment folder present at C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\10\Assessment and Deployment Kit\ even when ADK 1809 is installed

- This is because Microsoft has done some changes from ADK 1809 release and WINPE is an add-on component of ADK.

Microsoft has changed the way ADK is delivered from Windows 10 1809. They've separated WINPE (Windows PreExecution Environment) installation from ADK 1809.

  • Download the Windows PE add-on for the ADK without which the deployment won't be possible. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/get-started/adk-install

  • Once the installation is finished, the missing 'Windows Preinstallation Environment' folder is created with its respective components
  • Click on Check Environment once the ADK 1809 WinPE add-on is installed and the status will change to OK on the OSD Manager Configuration properties.
