How to point Smart IT 18.05 and above to a different AR Server (e.g. in case the AR Server where Smart IT points to no longer exists)?
This knowledge article may contain information that does not apply to version 21.05 or later which runs in a container environment. Please refer to Article Number 000385088 for more information about troubleshooting BMC products in containers.
In order to make Smart IT point to a new AR Server, correct the server details in the below locations:
Smart IT Database - SmartIT_System.CONFIGURATION_PARAMETER table
SMT:Administration Console' form
Open the 'SMT:Administration Console' form in Mid-Tier
From the 'Applications' List (left panel on form), select the and take note of the 'Data Store' name that is selected:
On the left, select the 'Persistent Data Stores' panel, and in the list of Data Stores that expands, select the name that corresponds to the Data Store that was found in the previous step. The connection information for Smart IT's Persistent Data Store can now be checked/updated on the right-hand side of the screen:
'MyITInstalledConfiguration.xml' file on Smart IT Servers
This file is used by the Smart IT installer during upgrades - update any references to the old server name or port with the new details (example parameters to check the value for in the xml file: "BMC_AR_SERVER_NAME", "BMC_AR_PORT", "BMC_ITSM_SERVER_NAME", "BMC_ITSM_PORT", "BMC_AR_SERVER_INFO_HOSTNAME", "BMC_AR_SERVER_INFORMATION_SERVER_GROUP_ADMIN_SERVER_NAME", "BMC_AR_SERVER_INFORMATION_FULL_HOST_NAME")
Note: If you have new AR Server and do not find ccs entries for the 'com.bmc.arsys.smartit' component then please review Knowledge Article 000230178 which contains steps to add these settings.
Post making any changes at above locations, restart Smart IT services to have the new changes reflected.
IMPORTANT: We highly recommend you to take the necessary backups and test the solution in a lower environment first to ensure the functionality.
