For the Patch deployment, why does Windows Update service need to be set to "Manual"

Answer

Windows Vista/Server 2008 onwards patch installation behavior changed. Windows Vista and later patches are of a file type .MSU and this file type requires the Windows Update Service to be enabled to execute.The Windows update application is not required, but the standalone service handles extraction and execution of MSU patches and must remain enabled and that's why the service type should be Manual.

Note:

Windows Module Installer/Trusted Installer service must not be disabled. It is also required for the Patch installation.
