What the different types of TKU?

• The Core TKU (aka "The TKU") provides patterns for discovering items such as running software, CMDB sync mapping patterns, support for network devices, and product content (code or other changes to the appliance itself). The Core TKU is required.
• The Extended Data Pack (EDP) provides support for setting the EOL (End Of Life) and EOS (End of Support) dates. The EDP TKU is optional, but is available at no additional charge.
• The Storage TKU provides support to more fully discover storage systems. The Storage TKU is optional, and is an extra cost.
• The ServiceNow Sync TKU refers to a licensed TKU package specifically designed that includes patterns and mappings to support synchronization between BMC Discovery and ServiceNow CMDB.

Can the TKU be downgraded?

In cluster case, should the TKU be upgraded once on each members?

No. Follow the documented upgrade procedure and it will lead you to use the UI of 1 members (once) to upgrade the TKU of all the members at the same time.

Are there only patterns in the TKUs?

No. The Core TKU also contains rpm (files).

How often should the TKU be upgraded for on-premise appliances?

Once a month is the best. It is not recommended to upgrade less frequently than once a quarter.

Are TKUs cumulative?

Yes.

What is the recommended TKU upgrade sequence?

Upgrade the core TKU first. The rest can be upgraded in any order.

Any recommendations (best practice) before upgrading the TKU?

• Plan for 30-60 minutes of maintenance/downtime.
• Stop starting new scans and wait for a moment where there are no scans running.
• If possible, try to resolve health/performance issues before trying to upgrade.
• Prepare and test a reasonable disaster recovery plan.
• Review the release notes.
• Try to open the zip file (just to confirm that it was not truncated or corrupted)

How to check the result of a TKU upgrade?

Go to Manage > Knowledge page in the UI. The items to verify in the UI on the Manage > Knowledge page are numbered 1, 2, and 3 in the screenshot attached and shown below:
